Loss is often what brings people to therapy: a loved one dies, a love affair ends, a close friend moves, a job that was once satisfying grows stale. Connection with others—a lover, a family, a tribe—is critical to a person’s well being. When that need is not met or is lost, it can go underground and turn into anxiety, depression or addiction.
Individual therapy provides a path back to connection. As you talk to me you hear your voice putting your story into words. It’s different than merely thinking it. Searching for a way to help me understand who you are, you begin to know yourself better, to separate out your own truth, to find your own voice and trust it.
